Dublin Camera Club - Exposure Revised

Greetings all you fellow photographers and a happy 2017.
Thank you for visiting my blog.
It is intended to assist you in your quest to understand the concepts involved in Photographic Exposure. Are these concepts difficult to understand?  Not when well explained in simple language with lots of examples.
And that is what I will do here.

Do I need to understand about Exposure?
That depends on what you want from your photography.
Many people are happy to put their camera in Auto Mode (pic.1} and thereby let the camera make all decisions about exposure and everything else.
Will that work?  It is a good place to start and it works some of the time.
You didn't need to do a Photography  Course to learn to use Auto Mode.
This camera below is in AUTO mode - AUTO lined up with the white marker.
Pic 1

But to get the full benefit from your Photographic Course and your expensive camera you have to go further.
How will that benefit me?
You will have the knowledge to be able to take beautiful images - image that are creative.
Images like these

The picture on the left requires a slow shutter speed to blur the water.
The portrait picture requires a wide Aperture to deliberately blur everything except the model.
Controlling the Aperture and shutter speed cannot happen in Auto mode.
